The Short Version
I’m Grant. 57. British expat in Japan for now. English teacher. Vegetable farmer. Writer at dawn on my days off.
This blog exists because midlife doesn’t arrive neatly. It arrives with questions. If you’re curious how that played out in my own life, you can read the full story here.
Divorce. Financial uncertainty. Aging parents. Physical changes. Faith. Rebuilding.
I write about the things we often think but don’t say.
Why This Blog Exists
At this stage of life, we’re all carrying private questions:
- Am I being honest with myself or making excuses?
- What does success look like now?
- Why does aging feel so strange?
This blog isn’t about pretending I’ve figured it out. It’s about exploring those questions in public.
What You’ll Find Here
- Reflection without performance
- Questions that invite response
- A mix of work, aging, purpose, relationships, and faith
- Posts written by someone still figuring it out
Current Chapter
After my wife returned to America following twenty years together, I’ve been rebuilding around:
- Teaching students who’ve become community
- Farming vegetables that keep me grounded
- Cycling to work in any weather
- Writing early, before the world wakes up
- Exploring faith with curiosity instead of certainty
This blog is part of that rebuilding.

The Invitation
If you’ve ever felt slightly out of step with the version of life you thought you’d have…
You’re not alone.

This blog grows through conversation.
